Thoughts of God on this International Women’s Day
March 9, 2010
On this International Women’s Day I’ve been thinking about God. Mainly, because women reflect the being of God in way men don’t. I think of the God of the Bible who in the words of the Psalmist is a “helper” (Psalm 121), in the words of The Law “gives birth” (Deut 32:18), in the words of Hosea “nurses and teaches how to walk” (Hosea 11), in the words of Isaiah “comforts” (Isaiah 66:13) and, in the words of Jesus “counsels, encourages and teaches” (John 14:36).
I have seen God in them and through them. In them and through them I have smelled God’s fragrance, tasted God’s sweetness, heard God’s voice and, seen God’s beauty. It was my deceased grand-mother; it is my mother, my wife and my daughters that have profoundly taught me about many aspects of God’s being and that have helped me to love as God loves. Mainly, by the unconditional way I have been loved.
